Basic characteristics

Belgian Blue breed is among the breeds intense medium body frame. The breed is becoming more global in importance particularly in the commercial crossing with dairy breeds. The breed has gained its popularity mainly due to the excellent meat yield, which is given muscle hypertrophy (known as double muscling). In pure form the animals are kept in a large extent only in the country of origin. The population in Belgium, of around 1.5 million animals, representing 45% of cattle across Belgium.

To the Czech Republic, the breed was imported for the first time in 1994 to farm of Animal Research Institute in Prague-Uhrineves. In recent years, reflected the growing interest in the breed, especially for use in a commercial crossbreeding.
